Short answer: To get your business mentioned in AI answers, make your website easy to read and easy to trust. Put a short, direct answer under every question heading, add schema markup, let search and AI crawlers read your pages, keep your business details identical everywhere, and earn real mentions through reviews, listings and case studies. Nobody can guarantee a mention, but these steps remove the common reasons a business is left out.
How AI answers find businesses
AI assistants and AI search features such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google’s AI answers pull information from web pages, then summarise it. If your page is hard to read, unclear about who you are, or blocked to crawlers, it is less likely to be used. That is the idea behind AEO (answer engine optimisation) and GEO (generative engine optimisation). If these terms are new, see our SEO, AEO and GEO glossary, or read SEO vs AEO: what every business needs to know.

Step 1: Answer the question first
Write each page around a real question your customers ask, such as “How much does a website cost in Pune?”. Put the question in a heading, then give a short, direct answer in the first one or two sentences. Add the detail after it. This helps search engines and AI tools lift a clean answer from your page.
Step 2: Add schema markup
Schema is code that tells machines what a page is about. For a local business, the useful types are the business itself (name, address, phone), the services you offer, and FAQs. Make sure the schema matches the text on the page. Our free schema markup generator can help you create it.
Step 3: Let crawlers read your site
Check your robots.txt file. If it blocks search or AI crawlers, they cannot read your pages. Also check any security or bot-protection settings in your hosting or CDN, because some switch on blocking of AI bots by default. A simple robots.txt and llms.txt generator shows the rules you can use. Block only what you must, such as admin and internal search pages.
Step 4: Keep your business details consistent
Use the same business name, address and phone number on your website, Google Business Profile and every directory listing. Mixed spellings or old addresses make it harder for any system to be sure which business is yours. Our Google Business Profile setup guide covers the basics.
Step 5: Earn real mentions
AI answers lean on what the wider web says about you, not only on your own site. Ask happy customers for Google reviews, list your business on relevant directories, and publish case studies with real results. Do not buy fake reviews or invent claims, because they damage trust with both people and search engines.
A quick checklist
- Each key page answers one question in its first sentences
- FAQ sections use clear question headings
- Schema is added and matches the page text
- robots.txt does not block search or AI crawlers
- Business name, address and phone match everywhere
- Google Business Profile is complete
- You have recent reviews and at least one case study
- Pages load fast on mobile

What we recommend
Start with the pages that bring you enquiries: your main service pages and your pricing page. Fix the answer, the schema and the crawl access on those first, then work outward. Run a free website health check to see where your site stands, or look at our SEO services if you want help.
Frequently asked questions
Can I pay to be mentioned in ChatGPT or Google AI answers?
You cannot pay to be included in organic AI answers. What you can do is make your site clear, crawlable and trustworthy so it is a good source to use.
Is AEO different from SEO?
They overlap. SEO helps pages rank in search results. AEO and GEO help your content be quoted in direct answers. Clear pages, good structure and trust help with all three.
Should I block AI crawlers?
If you want to be mentioned in AI answers, do not block them. Block only pages you do not want read, such as admin or internal search pages.
How long does it take to appear in AI answers?
There is no fixed time. Changes can be picked up as pages are crawled again, but a mention is never guaranteed. Keep improving your pages and your reputation.
Do reviews really matter for AI answers?
Reviews and mentions on other sites help show that your business is real and trusted, which supports both local search and AI answers.
